The role of dedicated volunteers has played a significant part in the Brothers' work. From the time of its first opening in the 1920s to this day, hundreds of men and women have generously donated their time and provided financial support for the care given at the Brothers' facilities.
In 1936, the Society of Josephines was founded as a non-profit, non-sectarian organization of women. On the occasion of the Silver Jubilee of St. Joseph's Hill in 1952, the Society of Joseph -- a men's group -- was established to aid the Brothers in their work.
Today, membership in these volunteer societies totals almost 1,000. Their support benefits those in need of care at St. Joseph's Hill and Price Memorial, assisting the Brothers as they strive to provide for the elderly, the infirm and the terminally ill.
The year 2002 marked the Brothers' Diamond Jubilee -- and a celebration of their 75th Anniversary of service. Importantly, the Society of Joseph observed its 50th Anniversary the same year and, on this milestone occasion, the Franciscan Missionary Brothers extended their continuing gratitude and prayers to all Society members, past and present.
The fellowship of these groups is rewarding to their members. The Society of Joseph has an annual fall dinner in honor of its members. Each year, the Society of Josephines has a luncheon where members gather to enjoy each other's companionship and share in their dedication to helping the Brothers.
All are welcome to join one of the societies. Nominal yearly dues of $15 are paid to the Society of Josephines, along with any additional contribution that members care to make. Annual dues of $125 are assessed by the Society of Joseph. Lifetime memberships also are available.
Helping the Brothers to Care for Others
"To help ensure that the two societies remain viable for years to come, we encourage people in the communities we serve to join these very worthwhile organizations," said Brother Bernardo Trosa. "For many years, the support that these groups provide to us has been important in our ability to care for residents at St. Joseph's Hill and Price Memorial. And, we hope you'll consider becoming a part of the Society of Joseph or the Society of Josephines."
